oh, thank you so much for this! it's wonderful.

I am ancient enough that I watched these guys first run, at around age 13. All the schoolgirls would decide who they had a crush on, and kirk was the vanilla favorite, with us wierder, darker kids pining for the elusive Mr. Spock. But intruth I adored them both, wanted to be them, and was clearly moved by their relationship.

A year or so into full-tilt slash fandom, where I feel like I've come home, Kirk/Spock make so much sense. Nowhere in my "pretending it's the 50's" upbringing was there such a relationship: based on mutual respect, a sense of adventure, intense loyalty, commitment to their cause.

I will spread this around.
